Brief Description:  Firewall #1

Got started on the firewall tonight. As a result of setting up the excel spreadsheet, it took about 2 minutes to find every piece I needed to start the firewall, including the F-801L backing plates that are placed in a hardware bag. For those going down this road, I think it's a must in order to save time searching for pieces.

Anyway, I removed the tabs from the F-801E side angles and the F-801C upper angle. I cut the gussets and the spacers apart with snips (not that hard) from the F-801JKWY, where the tabs were also removed.

The F-801 Upper angle, lower angle, side angles, middle angles, and centre angles were all clecoed in place.

The two upper spacers and WD-802 engine mount brackets were clecoed in place.

The two lower spacers and WD-803 lower engine mount brackets were clecoed in place. A word of caution here. Some would think that you would clecoed the bottom engine mount brackets just like the top ones. WRONG! You need to basically twist the W-803 under the flange of the F-801 side angles that the 801 is on the inside of the bracket, not the outside. The manual isn't very clear on this. At first I thought there was an issue, looked at the plans a few more times and then figured it out.

Once all of the brackets were in place, the gussets were clecoed in place along with the F-801L backing plates.

Don't drill the 1/4 inch hole in the backing plates unless you are using inflight adjustable rudder pedals.

I then final drilled all of the #30 holes, and the #40 holes for the nutplates.

I'm off to CFB Trenton in the morning to interview Air Cadets competing for their Flying Scholarships for both glider and the private pilot's licence. Hoperfully I can get back in the garage tomorrow night.

All of the parts need to be deburred and the firewall will be deburred as well, and maybe even dressed up with swirly's?
